SRW Message Board

Lynne Hartung, President SRW 2012

Lynne Hartung is a member of Sparks RW, for which she served as treasurer for two years and as vice president of membership in 2009.

During the previous 12 years in Fallon, a rural community 60 miles from Reno, Lynne served as secretary, vice president and president of Lahontan RW. She also served two terms as vice chairman of the Churchill County Republican Central Committee.

Lynne began her Republican Party involvement in 1980 when she was hired by Barbara Vucanovich, who later was elected to Congress from Nevada, as the volunteer coordinator for the Paul Laxalt Reelection campaign.

Since 2001, Lynne has been employed as controller at KTVN, the CBS affiliate in Reno.

Lynne has been active in several community organizations. She served on the board of the Better Business Bureau of Northern Nevada from 2004-2009 and as chairman in 2008. She also served on the boards of the Churchill County Museum, the Churchill Arts Council, the Fallon Council of the Navy League, and Nevada Water Resources.

Lynne lives in Sparks with her son, Ted.

Diane Baranowski, 1st VP/Program Chair

Diane is our new 1st VP and Programming Chair. She and her husband Cliff are fairly new to Nevada, having moved here four years ago from Sacramento for the arrival of grandbaby #1, Xavier J. Now that grandbaby #2, Diamond Diane, is here, they are very happy permanent residents of our rugged and wonderful state. Diane worked closely with teachers in her kids’ schools for twenty years but made a career change to Medical Transcription when she turned the big 5-0! Her job at Saint Mary’s Radiology is hanging by a thread due to the arrival of Voice Recognition technology and massive layoffs there. But her decreased hours there coincide perfectly with her desire to address the dire state of the nation in general and Nevada in particular - and she is working to get us all kinds of speakers to light some fires under us! She feels that there is much valuable work to be done by every single member of SRW, and that as we watch this new crop of Republican Representatives and Senators take to the floor in January, we need to be ready to pay close attention and hold every single one of them accountable to us – and the message that we know we sent them in November! Diane would like to hear from every one of our members to find out what issue they are passionate about and find a way to get our elected officials to really pay attention. Diane is here to learn from SRW - and to take advantage of local GOP resources to become more effective at persuading them to do what is right. And - she is climbing down from her soapbox now. She will see you at the next meeting!

Cheryl Schlader, SRW Secretary 2012

I was born in Pennsylvania. My father was a Mechanical Design Engineer, and we moved to New York City, where I attended an all-girls high school. I attended Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. I married and had a son and daughter and worked in Commercial Real Estate in South Florida before moving to Reno. I have been in some sort of sales or sales training most of my working life. I am an avid reader, and I enjoy cooking, hiking, golf, and I actually have grown a pretty good vegetable garden here in Nevada. I am married to Joe and we have two grandchildren who live in Spanish Springs. I love spending time with them. I have been a lifelong Republican.

Ruth Kapahee, Treasurer

Ruth Kapahee

I was born and raised in Lakeview Oregon, a very small town in Southern Oregon. After graduation I attended college in Ashland and Portland Oregon. I lived and worked in Portland, Memphis, Tennessee and Cherry Point, North Carolina for a few years before moving to Sparks in 1969. My two children and four grandchildren have been the main focus of my life. The grandchildren are now my extra curricular activities and hobby most of the time as they all live in Sparks. I have been employed in the administration of all types of employee benefit plans for the past 40 years. I am currently employed full time at The LaTourrette Agency in Reno. My other hobbies are camping, gardening and reading. The SRW is the first organization that I have joined that made me want to come back after the first visit.

Peg Bibby, Chaplain

Peggy was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts and moved to Sparks from California after retiring from a 33 year career in nursing, during which she opened a Rural Health Clinic for our local District Hospital and finished her career doing Hospice nursing. Her husband, Bob is also retired after a 46 year banking career. They have been happily married for going on 47 years and have 3 children, 14 grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Their son lives in Sparks and they enjoy spending time with him and his family. While living in Lake Isabella, California, Peggy took a brief hiatus from nursing and owned a fabric and craft store for several years. Sewing remains a favorite pastime of hers, along with reading, walking their longhaired dachshund Katie and helping out at St. Paul's Episcopal Church food pantry. We are glad to have her as our Chaplain.
