SRW Presents Dictionaries to Sun Valley Elementary School
SRW Presents Dictionaries to Sun Valley Elementary School

Sparks Republican Women were proud to present 170 dictionaries to 3rd & 5th grade students at Sun Valley Elementary School this year as part of our Literacy project.  In photo from L/R:  Dana Galvin 5th grade teacher at SVE, Rhonda Van Deusen Principal at SVE, Cheryl McKinney Treasurer SRW, Malinda Campbell SRW Webmaster, and Mike Hules SRW President, and new Northern Director elect of NvFRW :)

It was a real pleasure to watch the kids excitement as we gave them the dictionaries, explained to them that no matter how old they get - they'll always keep a dictionary handy beside their desks for future endeavors, and we were thankful the school allowed us to give the kids special stickers to stick in the inside cover where they could write their names for ownership reference, and our stickers notated who gave the book.

The kids were all so cute, and it made us feel like we made a difference in their education :)  We were also most excited to know that when this school year ends - the kids get to take the dictionaries home - and they get to keep them forever :)

We'd also like to thank KOLO News Channel 8 for giving us a blurb on the 5:00 news on Oct 21, 2009 for this act.  It's always special when local media appreciates our contributions to the community :)

Lincoln Day Dinner
Lincoln Day Dinner
Lincoln Day Dinner was a success with approximately 300 people attending.  Featured speaker was Michael Reagan, son of Ronald Reagan.  He was a very intertaining speaker full of motivation for Conservatives to regain our principals within the Republican party and make them stick :)

The Wooster High School color guard did a nice flag presentation, and one of their students sang the National Anthem with much style and grace.  It was a moving performance.  Hosted at the beautiful new Tuscan addition to the Peppermill Hotel & Casino, the facility was fabulous, everyone was dressed to the nines, and the Prime Rib dinner was scrumptious :)

Many of the Sparks Republican women are visible in this photo.  RNC party member Steve Ause posted these photos online.  See other Lincoln Day photos at http://picasaweb.google.com/sausexx/LincolnDayPhotos#

Sparks Republican Women Win Award
Mike Hules President SRW

NVFRW Leadership Conference 2009 was held at the Atlantis Hotel Casino Resort on Feb. 7 2009.  This conference is designed to teach active Republican Women how to lead their clubs in particular areas and teaches focus on duties of individuals to promote our goals of increasing the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government through political participation and activism.

Federated Republican Women clubs from all over Northern Nevada were represented here, and approximately 80-100 women attended.  We were pleased to have our Nevada First Lady Dawn Gibbons stop by for some words of encouragement during lunch, and to hear motivation from various leaders of the State Federation.

We are happy to announce that Sparks Republican Women took 2nd place in two categories of membership expansion.  We won the 2008 Red Recruitment Award for increasing our membership by more than 20% in 2008.  We also won the Elephant Stampede Award for increasing our membership by an impressive 79.31% since 2007!  We won the coveted podium banner as seen in the top photo, and $600 from our elected officials that support Republican women across Nevada.  Three officials each donated $200 toward this award:  Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, Senator Bill Raggio, and Senator John Townsend.

We'd like to extend a cordial word of congratulations to the Mt. Rose Republican Women who won 1st place :)

After lunch, we had breakaway groups in which State Federation leaders took specific officers and members aside to teach leadership in each of our particular categories (i.e. Presidents, Secretaries, Newsletters & Communication, Membership, etc.)  The leadership conference is a valuable tool in which to motivate and hone in skills to better promote our Conservative values and reach out to other women in our communities that can make a difference.
